Newborn Basics

Safe Formula Prep & Storage

Why Formula Safety Matters

Newborn immune systems are delicate, and proper formula preparation keeps Noah safe from bacteria and reduces tummy issues. These steps are simple once they become routine.

Abby is already doing a great job choosing gentle formulas that support Noah's sensitive stomach.

Preparing Noah's Formula Safely

1. Wash Hands First

Simple and important—clean hands protect newborns.

2. Use Clean Bottles & Nipples

Sterilize new bottles once; after that, wash with hot soapy water or use a dishwasher.

3. Follow the Exact Water-to-Formula Ratio

Every formula brand includes a scoop and instructions.

Never add extra water—this can dilute nutrients.

Never add extra power—it can upset Noah's tummy.

4. Mix Thoroughly

Shake gently until fully dissolved.

Avoid hard shaking, which adds air bubbles that cause gas.

5. Test the Temperature

A few drops on Abby's wrist should feel warm—not hot.

Storing Formula Safely

Freshly Prepared Bottles

Use within 2 hours of making it if left at room temperature.

If Noah starts drinking it, use within 1 hour.

Refrigerated Formula

Pre-mixed bottles can be stored for up to 24 hours in the fridge.

Never Reheat in a Microwave

It creates hot spots.

Use warm water or a bottle warmer instead.

When to Discard Formula

Throw out any formula that is:

  • Older than 24 hours
  • Warmed more than once
  • Left out for more than 2 hours
  • Half-finished after 1 hour.

Newborn safety relies on freshness.

Encouragement for Abby

Feeding Noah—whether breastmilk, formula, or both—is already full of decisions. Remember: Abby is doing an amazing job. Her careful attention keeps Noah healthy, happy, and growing strong.
