What Are Feeding Cues?

Feeding cues are the small signs Noah gives before he becomes upset or cries. Recognizing these early signals helps Abby feed him while he's still calm, making nursing or botle-feeding smoother and more restful for both of them.

Noah already communicates beautifully—just in tiny, newborn ways.

 

Early Hunger Signs (Best Time to Feed)

• Turning head side to side
• Rooting (searching with his mouth)
• Bringing hands to mouth
• Sucking on fingers, clothing, or blanket
• Smacking lips or opening/closing mouth
• Becoming more active or wiggly

Feeding at this stage helps Noah latch easily and stay relaxed.

 

Mid Hunger Signs

• Squirming or stretching
• Small fussing sounds
• Restlessness while being held

This is still a good time to offer a feeding.

 

Late Hunger Signs

• Crying
• Bright red face
• Stiffness or frantic movements

Noah crying doesn't mean Abby did anything wrong—it's just his last way of saying "I'm hungry."

A quick cuddle, calming, and then feeding usually settles him again.
